Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Turkish Trauma & Emergency Hospital

Through its ongoing work in Lebanon, Give a Child a Brighter Future is helping strengthen emergency medical care for children by equipping a new Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Turkish Trauma & Emergency Hospital, providing life-saving support to critically ill patients across the region.
The hospital, which reopened in November 2024, had remained inactive for years due to local political challenges before being restored to address the critical shortage of hospitals in South Lebanon. Today, it stands as the only Trauma and Emergency Centre in the region, playing a vital role in delivering urgent care.
Strengthening Emergency Care for Children
At the heart of this effort is the newly equipped Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, designed to provide specialised care for children facing severe illness or injury. The unit includes five dedicated treatment rooms fitted with essential medical equipment, including respirators, patient monitoring systems, ultrasound imaging, and diagnostic tools, ensuring that children can receive the highest level of care when they need it most.
Preparing for Critical Needs
Today, the PICU stands fully equipped and ready to welcome patients. To ensure the highest standards of care from the moment the unit becomes operational, nurses have been undergoing specialised training at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.
Once open, the unit will provide a vital safety net for families across South Lebanon, offering immediate and specialised treatment for children in life-threatening conditions. Given the ongoing conflict in the region, the hospital will also play a crucial role in treating patients from the south who require urgent and intensive care.
This project represents more than new equipment or hospital rooms; it reflects a long-term commitment by Give a Child a Brighter Future and its supporters to ensuring that every child has access to life-saving care when it matters most.
